John has been involved in Law Enforcement for over 30 years. Beginning his career as a part-time police officer in 1973 with the Blasdell Police Department. Later going full-time and working up through the ranks to the position of Sergeant where he remained until May 31,1988 when Blasdell Police department was disbanded and its Officers transferred to the Erie County Sheriffs Department on June 1, 1988. John retired on July 30,2004 after working 16 years as a Sergeant with Erie County Sheriffs department. He had been the liaison for the Erie County Sheriffs department to the Village for 16 years, working under several Mayors and Village Board Members. Because of his years of experience and working relationship with the Village of Springville he was appointed Chief in September 2001 when the Police Department was reactivated.

John supervises a Springville Police Department comprised of 14 part-time officers providing varied hours of community policing which includes bicycle patrols and a dog handler with his partner trained in tracking, narcotics detection as well as other areas of police protection.

Additionally John brings more than 25 years of active community service as a Volunteer Fire Fighter with the Blasdell Volunteer Fire Department, holding titles of Chief and President during his tenure. He has also served as Chief of Security for the Erie County Agricultural Society at the Erie County Fair for more than 10 years.

John currently resides in Eden with Carol his wife of 34 years, and their Golden Retriever Star.
