Once known for its agricultural importance, the greater Springville area has become a regional shopping center for southern Erie and northern Cattaraugus Counties. While agriculture still plays an important role in the area's commerce, business and industry have emerged as major enterprises.
Springville's "Golden Mile" has affixed itself along a strip of US Route 219, the main north-south corridor that runs through the center of the town. Commercial business has flourished in the past decade along Route 219. The area is prime for development to complement an ever-growing number of medium and large-scale enterprises, which include Wal*mart, Tops Market, two large full-service automobile dealerships, several full service and fast food restaurants, gas stations, and a motel.
Springville's downtown business district has been placed on the National Historic Register. The 14th largest village in Erie County, the village offers several opportunities for village shopping in unique, small shops. Expansion and retail start-up opportunities also exist in the picturesque downtown business district.
Industrial enterprise is alive and well in Springville. Peerless-Winsmith, Inc., manufacturer of speed reducers for industrial application, Nason's Delivery, regional short trucking service, cutlery manufacturer Fiddler's Green/Robinson Knife, along with several smaller manufacturers make up the manufacturing base of the Springville area.
